NKOTBSB brings the 90's back to Greensboro

If you are a female over the age of twenty, you have most likely heard of the New Kids on the Block, or the Backstreet Boys. These two boy bands have been melting the hearts of fans since 1989 and 1993, and have sold millions of CD's as well. Recently, these two groups have joined forces, creating NKOTBSB who stopped in Greensboro NC Saturday night, leaving fans reliving their teen years as well as proving that some bands just get better with age.

These bands were in their heyday at two completely different times, therefore, it is a wonder that they had the idea to come together. It all began when the Backstreet Boys(BSB) surprised the New Kids on the Block(NKOTB) at one of their concerts in 2010 that the idea of NKOTBSB came about. There was such a good reaction from the crowd that the groups continued to talk about doing a joint project together. In August 2010, it was officially announced that BSB and NKOTB would tour together as NKOTBSB, leaving fans anxious and excited to see their favorite childhood bands again on one stage.

It has been a number of years since the two groups first started, yet this didn't seem to hinder either one Saturday night, seeing as the Greensboro Coliseum was almost full to capacity. Upon entering, it wasn't apparent which band a fan was there for, rather they were just there to have a good time. The audience, dominated by young women, was more than enthusiastic when all nine group members finally came on stage amidst a flashing of lights. It was as if two decades worth of love for these men was unleashed, and they could not be more appreciative for it.

Though the two bands are touring together, the show was staged in such a way that each one had their own sets where they were able to sing their greatest hits. For the Backstreet Boys, this included "I Want It That Way," "Quit Playing Games with My Heart," "As Long as You Love Me," "I'll Never Break Your Heart," "All I Have to Give," "Backstreet's Back," and more. For the New Kids, "Step by Step," "You Got It(The Right Stuff)," "Cover Girl," "Summertime," "Please Don't Go Girl," and a few others made the set list. While each group sang their songs separately, they did come together for a few mashups, singing Queen's "We Will Rock You," and some of their own songs, such as BSB's "Larger Than Life" with an NKOTBSB twist.

Noting the age of a few members of NKOTBSB, some have said that the New "Kids" or the Backstreet "Boys" may have had their day, and should stop touring due to unpopularity. After last night's show, however, it is quite apparent that not only are these men are in the best shape they could be in, as Donnie Wahlberg liked to point out numerous times, fans do not want them to disappear just yet. Joey McIntyre told the crowd that, "No matter where this crazy time traveling trip takes us, we are having a blast doing it for all of you, and we won't stop until we want this to stop."

If you grew up with either the Backstreet Boys or New Kids on the Block, this concert is the most fun you will ever have at a live show. Whether it is an entire stadium screaming for their favorite guy, or the entire crowd singing every song word for word, the love for all nine of these musicians is palpable. The nineties may be over, yet whenever one of these group's song is heard, it is an immediate trip back in time when everything seemed a bit easier. This is exactly why the stadium's keep filling up after all this time, and will continue to do so as long as these groups still want to perform.
